Sylvia Castillo Helps Beautify Bedrooms at Aurora Battered Women’s Shelter

Caring Real Estate Professional Gives Back After Experiencing Abusive Relationships First-Hand

DENVER, Colo. – October 8, 2013 – Sylvia Castillo, Office Manager for Innovative Real Estate Group in Denver, recently helped paint and re-decorate three bedrooms at the Gateway Battered Women’s Shelter in Aurora.  Castillo, her husband, and a group of caring friends and colleagues completed the project on October 5, 2013.

The Castillo crew helped brighten and beautify the bedrooms with new sheets and blankets, comforters, artwork, and a fresh coat of paint.  Other donations included a variety of clothing items that will help the battered women who are trying to break the shackles of an abusive relationship.

“I want to help empower battered women and remind them that they were born to fly and that they do not have to stay in a place of pain and sorrow,” said Castillo.  “When the time comes that they finally decide that enough is enough, we will be here to celebrate with them.  This project is one small way that we can give back and make a difference, and I’m honored to be part of it.”

“The rooms look amazing,” said Jeneen Klippel, Director of Development and Public Relations for Gateway Battered Women’s Services.  “I have been with Gateway for over 23 years and have never seen any of our rooms look so great.  We are very grateful for this generous donation of items and true labor of love for our clients.  The facelift for the rooms has put a happy step on our ladies currently staying in the shelter and has lightened the mood for our staff.  Sometimes just knowing that people in the community genuinely care about what we are doing and are willing to help can really make a big difference and keep our staff moving forward.  You are awesome.”

Contributors to the decorating effort include Avalanche Paintings and Coatings, America Inspections, Serenity’s Way, Innovative Real Estate Group, and several individuals who gave donations.

Gateway Battered Women’s Services is a 30-day emergency shelter for battered women and their children who are fleeing a violent relationship.  The shelter provides safety, shelter, counseling and many other services.  The women are desperately trying to find a way to rebuild their lives.  The shelter provides a respite from the abuse while helping women make a safety plan.  For more information, visit
